Human Resources

Work is personal because people are personal. Human Resources is a support team for the entire agency, helping AFS build and maintain a qualified workforce while making sure employment practices are fair, consistent, and responsible. From the first job posting through the many changes that can happen during someone’s employment, HR helps employees and agency leaders understand what comes next.

How HR Supports AFS

For the Agency

HR helps AFS build and maintain a qualified workforce while protecting the agency through consistent employment practices. We support recruitment, hiring, continued employment requirements, employment law, unemployment claims, workers’ compensation, FMLA, and employment-related legal matters.

For Our Members

Members depend on the people who support them. HR helps make sure employees meet the requirements of their positions before they are hired and continue to meet employment requirements throughout their time with AFS. That work helps protect the quality, safety, and reliability of the support our members receive.

For Our Employees

Employment comes with questions, changes, and sometimes difficult moments. HR helps employees navigate the processes that affect their employment, including onboarding, continued employment requirements, FMLA, workers’ compensation, and other workplace needs. Our goal is to make those processes clear and help employees understand what happens next.

How HR Helps

Joining AFS

Starting a new job already comes with enough unknowns. Once an applicant is selected, HR helps guide them through the requirements and onboarding process so they know what is needed before becoming an AFS employee.

Job Opportunities

Every open position begins with finding the right person for the work. HR works with department leaders to understand vacant and new positions and makes sure opportunities are posted internally, externally, or both when appropriate.

Your Employment Requirements

Getting hired is only the beginning. We help make sure employees continue to meet the requirements of their positions throughout their employment and provide guidance when something needs attention.

Your HR Training

Knowing what is expected makes it easier to do your job well. HR provides human resources training for newly hired and current administrative employees so they have the information and guidance they need in their roles.

Family & Medical Leave (FMLA)

Sometimes life requires time away from work. We review and process FMLA requests and help employees understand the process and what is needed along the way.

Workers’ Compensation

When someone is injured at work, the process that follows shouldn’t add unnecessary confusion. HR helps review and process workers’ compensation claims and provides guidance through the employment-related steps that follow.

Unemployment Claims

Employment sometimes ends, and there are responsibilities that continue afterward. HR represents AFS in unemployment claims and helps make sure the agency responds accurately and appropriately throughout the process.

Employment Law & Legal Matters

Fair and responsible employment practices protect both people and the organization. HR helps AFS navigate employment law and represents the agency in employment-related litigation and other legal matters.
